Saturday 22nd. 9.30 – 10.00 Registration, tea and coffee. Please note all Workshops will include a short break as and when determined by the Tutor

Morning workshops. 10.15 – 12.15

A1. Higher level. Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne. Melodeon for Accompaniment – looking how the melodeon can be used to accompany singing and in ensemble settings to accompany other instruments. This workshop is for those who have a good knowledge of the melodeon and some knowledge of this technique in order to push the boundaries.

A2. Intermediate/Higher. Steve Dumpleton. Wonderful Welsh Tunes. An introduction to some lovely Welsh tunes and how to make the most of them on the melodeon.

A3. Basic Level. Issy Emeney. Right and Left Hand chords. Playing chords in the right as well as in the left hand is often neglected, but is a really enjoyable and useful skill to acquire early on in your playing. It is essential for song accompaniment and great for playing in bands and sessions. This workshop is for those who have either not tried this technique or have dabbled in it and want to learn more. Issy will run you through the basic and some not so basic chords in both hands.

12.15 – 2.30. Lunch. Soup and sandwiches available at extra cost, please indicate on the booking form if you want to have this.

1.15 – 2.15 Lunchtime sessions. Two sessions: Basic, simple tunes at a steady pace plus a more advanced session led by Rees Wesson.

Afternoon workshops. 2.30 – 4.30

B1 Higher Level. Issy Emeney. Issy’s Tunes. Known for her lyrical style and beautiful melodies, Issy will share a couple of her tunes and the technique required to play them. She’ll cover playing slow airs, dynamics, fingering and bass accompaniment. An ability to play comfortably across the rows will be essential for this workshop.

B2. Intermediate level. Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne. West Midlands Tunes – taking some tunes from various sources from across the Midlands and using them as a tool to consider various technical considerations e.g. harmony, cross rowing variation etc.

B3. Basic/Intermediate. Steve Dumpleton. Playing with Playford. Some great country dance tunes from Playford’s Dancing Master (1651 – 1728) to improve your melodeon technique.

4.30 – 5.30. Cakes etc. available at extra cost, please indicate on the booking form. Cups of tea and coffee plus biscuits are included in the Workshop cost.

5.30 – 7pm. Tutors concert with Rees, Cohen, Issy and Steve.
